Welcome to Seaford Head School, the next stage in your child’s education, where we strive to achieve a happy, high quality learning community, and encourage students to be motivated and independent.
To help new students we have developed a strong transition programme with our Seaford feeder primary schools, which includes visiting students in their primary schools, as well as inviting all students to spend a week with us in July, before joining Seaford Head School in September.
Many department areas offer workshops in their subjects and details of these are sent to primary schools.
To help new students, our Transition Co-ordinator works closely with students and families to ensure a smooth transition to Seaford Head School.
For additional information and guidance regarding admissions, please see the links below or email us directly at admissions@seafordhead.org.
If you have a child in Year 6, you MUST apply for a place at secondary school with by the deadline of 31 October 2023.
National decision day is Friday 1 March 2024.
In order to enhance your chances of securing a place for your child at one of your preferred schools your application must be lodged via the home authority for where you live, even if your preference[s] are not for schools in your area. For example applying for an East Sussex school when you live within the Brighton and Hove city boundary, it is essential you apply via Brighton and Hove. Applications are then passed between the local authorities using a secure electronic link.
The preferred method for submitting applications is via the local authorities’ websites by following the links below:
If you are planning to move your child from their current school to our school you will need to make your application via the Local Authority, East Sussex County Council.
Our planned admissions for each year group are below along with the amount of students we have in each year group.
As an Academy we must comply with statutory regulations regarding admissions. Seaford Head School has been oversubscribed in the past and the trend suggests this will be the case again this year. As a result, in previous years, some local applicants or those with siblings already at the school were not offered places as they either failed to apply or made an application after the 31 October deadline.
Any applications received after 31 October 2023 will be considered as being late. As a result any such application will be considered after those received before the deadline. If you do not apply on time your child will not be allocated a school of your choice if any of the schools listed are oversubscribed. Being a resident in the school community area or if you already have other children at the school, does not guarantee a place if your application is late.
You are entitled to give three schools as preferences. It is recommended that you do not restrict your application to one preference school. If your preference school is oversubscribed a place will be allocated at the closest school with spaces, if no other preferences are given.
You may also wish to give due consideration to how your child will get to school as assistance with transport is very limited. Details are available on the East Sussex website.
If you do have any queries please contact the team at East Sussex to clarify your situation. For East Sussex Residents, you can download a full guide to the ESCC admissions process using the button below.
If you have been refused a place at Seaford Head School you have the right to have your case considered by an independent appeal panel. The best way to submit an appeal is online by clicking below.
The above link also provides useful information about the appeal process.
If you would prefer to submit your appeal in paper format, please send a written request for an appeal form and guidance notes to:
East Sussex Schools Appeals Service,
West E,
East Sussex County Council,
County Hall,
St Anne’s Crescent,
Lewes BN7 1SW
Tel: 01273 482290.
The appeal deadline for children starting in the Secondary Phase in September 2024 (for Year 7) is Friday 31st March 2024.
Appeals will be heard throughout May and June 2024.
For In-year appeals:
Deadline for receipt of appeals:
Parents have within 25 school days of the date of a letter confirming the decision to refuse an application. Appeal Hearings to take place: in-year appeals must be heard within 30 school days of receipt.
Notification of the date, time and venue for the appeal hearing:
ESCC will send you notification confirming when your appeal will be heard by an independent appeal panel. ESCC will give you at least 10 school days written notice of the date of the hearing, unless you’ve agreed to a shorter notice period. The information should also confirm the deadline to parents to submit additional information.
Deadline for additional evidence to be submitted:
You should send ESCC all your evidence supporting your case when you make your appeal. However, you can send any additional evidence to ESCC up to 7 working days before the date of the hearing (not including the day of dispatch or the day of their hearing). You can send additional evidence after this deadline or bring extra items with you on the day of your hearing but the appeal panel may decide not to accept this late evidence. Submitting extra evidence late can sometimes lead to your hearing being adjourned, or even postponed to another day.
ESCC will normally send you a decision letter which sets out the reasons for the panel’s decision within five school days of your hearing; it can take longer at busy times.
