What is our Departmental Intent?:

KS3 –

To develop further the skills learnt in KS2 in literacy, reading and writing and oracy to develop confident communicators.

To introduce students to a variety of texts from different cultures, periods and genres including a variety of poetry, novels and non – fiction texts.

To develop students’ ability to write in a variety of different text formats and for a variety of different audiences and purposes.

To prepare students for the rigours of KS4

 

KS4 –

To develop further the skills learnt in KS3 in literacy, reading and writing and oracy to develop articulate and independent communicators.

To develop knowledge and understanding of key literary genres and significance of context.

To develop the skills to analyse language and structure in depth in different contexts.

To build resilience in preparation for post 16 options including KS5, Apprenticeships and the world of work.

 

KS5 –

To develop critical analysis and evaluative skills to develop sophisticated, perceptive and eloquent lines of argument.

To develop an appreciation of a variety of literary texts and genres from across the literary canon.

To develop an appreciation of linguistic and stylistic devices used in a variety of contexts to explore the writers’ intended meanings in both fiction and non-fiction.

To prepare students with the critical skills required for post 18 studies and the world of work.
