“We are off to Oxford!” Outstanding A - Level results for students at Seaford Head Sixth Form

Students at Seaford Head Sixth Form were celebrating exceptional A-Level results and BTEC level 3 results on Thursday.  

It is remarkable that from a relatively small sixth form, so many students will be continuing their studies at Oxford and other Russell Group Universities from September.  Lara Hauge secured A* grades in Geography and Biology and an A grade in Chemistry. Lara will be studying Biology at the University of Oxford’s Somerville College.  Harry Brown achieved an A * in Biology and A grades in Computer Science and Chemistry.  Harry will be studying Biology at the University of Oxford’s Christ Church College.  Rosa Moore will be studying English Language and Literature at the University of Oxford’s Christ Church College after securing an A* in Art and A grades in English Literature and History.  Eryn Greenaway will be studying English Literature at the University of Oxford’s Magdalen College after securing an A* in Politics and A grades in History, English Literature and her Extended Project.  Harry commented “I can’t believe that I will be starting at Oxford in a few weeks’ time.  I am so grateful to the teachers who have supported me” 

The whole cohort secured outstanding outcomes, with a number of students securing A*grades across the board. Patrick Brackenridge achieved A*s in Maths, Further Maths and Biology and will be studying Mathematics at the University of Warwick. Ava Hall-Zschenderlein achieved A*s in English Literature, Art, Maths and her extended project.  Ava will be progressing onto Durham University where she will be studying Economics with Management.  Oliver Oldrey secured A* grades in Maths, Physics and Computer Science and will be studying Mechanical Engineering with professional placement at the University of Bath. Other students who secured A*s/ As across all their subjects are Emily Bunn (English, History and Sociology), Jamie Diamand (Maths, Chemistry and Physics) and Ella White (English, Biology and Psychology).  Almost 3 out of every 10 A Level grades were at A* or A grade. 

Students also performed extremely well in the BTEC Level 3s. 63% of BTECS were at Distinction or Distinction * level and there was a 100% pass rate.  Emily Martin secured a Distinction * in both Sport and Public Services to go with her B grade in A – Level Biology. Esther Leslie secured a Distinction* in Performing Arts to go with her A* in Art and B grade In English Language and Literature.  

In addition to the above, students who made exceptional progress from KS4 to KS5 include Bella Scriven who will be studying English at the University of Bristol, Billy Tucker who will be studying Sociology with a Language at the University of Sussex and Joe Jonas who will be studying Business Management at Manchester Metropolitan University. 

Catherine Wilkinson, the Director of Learning for the sixth form commented, “We knew that students were going to perform well this year but as this cohort had not sat their GCSEs, it was a massive challenge for them to perform under exam conditions.  They have rose to the challenge and have secured really exciting progression routes for themselves.  Parents and carers have been incredibly supportive and we have all worked together to ensure that this group secured fantastic outcomes”.  

Samantha Alvarez, the Assistant Headteacher who leads Key Stage 5 at the school commented,“ The national media has been highlighting how this year’s results have been pegged back to 2019 outcomes so what this cohort has achieved is truly remarkable.  It’s fantastic that 80% of students have secured their first choice progression route.” 

Bob Ellis, the Headteacher added, “I am incredibly proud of this fantastic group of students and our amazing staff who have supported them at every step of the way.”
